  • Background: A native of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Paul served as a flight surgeon during the Vietnam War. While practicing medicine, he delivered over 4,000 babies. His politics are more libertarian, including a 1988 run for President as the Libertarian Party nominee.
  • Family: Married to Carol; five children, one whom is a US Senator.

  • Abortion: Paul advocates repealing Roe v. Wade and preventing judges from interfering with state decisions on life by removing abortion from federal court jurisdiction. He also wants to define life as beginning at conception.
  • Budget/Spending: Paul regularly votes against almost all proposals for new government spending, initiatives or taxes. He endorses eliminating most federal government agencies and wants to end the Fed, which he says will limit government’s ability to overspend.
  • Economy/Jobs: Paul believes that excessive spending, artificial credit and market manipulation crashed our economy. He will make the tough decisions to legalize sound money and end the corporate stranglehold on the White House.
  • Energy: Paul desires to allow offshore drilling and abolish highway motor fuels taxes. He wants to encourage more coal and nuclear power.
  • Foreign Policy: Paul does not stand for military nation-building and will only engage in military action with congressional approval. He will also end foreign aid.
  • Guns: Paul has never voted for any piece of legislation that would infringe on gun owners’ rights or weaken the 2nd Amendment. He wants to end the assault rifle ban.
  • Health Care: Paul has spent his entire career in the medical profession. His view on health care involves repealing ObamaCare and allowing the purchase of insurance across state lines. He would stop the FDA and FTC from interfering with Americans’ knowledge of and access to dietary supplements and alternative treatments.
  • Immigration: Paul wants to enforce border security and abolish the welfare state that he believes draws illegal immigrants to America. For those here, he would not allow amnesty, and he would also end birthright citizenship.
  • Social Security: Paul understands Social Security is in “bad shape” and believes young Americans should be able to opt out of the system if they would not like to pay Social Security taxes, in order to protect the system.
  • Taxes: Paul would abolish the income tax, capital gains tax, and the death tax effectively shuddering the IRS. Instead he would like to see a Flat Tax or a Fair Tax.
